SCBWI Pity Party

So, this was going to be my year. Finally, after years of feeling I should, I joined the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. I was so excited, see, because THIS YEAR I was going to go to the ultra coo-el conference and, well, hang out with all of the coo-el author-agent-editor-illustrator type of people. It was going to be so great!!

But then, even though the event is but an hour and a half away*, I, alas, cannot attend.

Sniffle, sniffle, sob, sob.

What happened is that I have a very dear friend, one of those "like family" friends and there is one of those amazing fly-in-from-out-of-town parties** for this friend's 5oth birthday. ON SATURDAY.

So....um....yeah.

I plan on spending the time I am not at the birthday party feeling sorry for myself and moping around aimlessly. (or....maybe I'lljust write a lot and get farther ahead than those SCBWI-ers!!)

So, if there is anyone else out there that wants to join my pity party, let me know. I'll bring the snacks. I'm thinking cajun crab cakes with some homeade remoulade sauce for starters.

hrh

*Unless, of course, I go the wrong way on the 405, then it could take me days to get there.

**The last party I went to held by these friends was, hands down, the best party I have ever been to, (folks are coming all the way from Alaska to attend).....(except for Cali's 8th birthday when I transformed the house into Hogwarts.....)

Oh Shelley, I'm sorry! If it makes you feel any better, I can't go either - I can't afford the airfare! But if you decide to attend the New York conference in 2010, let me know! I went earlier this year, and it was life-changing! So glad you joined SCBWI!

I'm sorry! Well, I've been to several writing conferences and they're rewarding but not absolutely necessary. Does SCBWI have local monthly chapter meetings you can attend?

Yeah! I won't be alone at my pity party! You gals are great. So, I think I'll have my own little conference....you know, instead of listening to guest speakers, I'll read writers' blogs....(kind of like I do every day).

So, make sure your posts over the weekend are really, really awesome!

Shelley

(Corey.....I don't know what I was thinking. I never go the wrong way. Did you finish reading BOTH copies of your books yet?) hehehe

I want so much to go to that conference! Unfortunately, I live on the wrong side of the country... :)

Sounds like it's going to be a great get-together! I wasn't even able to make local Oregon SCBWI conference this year, so I'll join in! :-) Love the reference to 405!

Yes! The more the merrier!!

Beth- I already feel as if I'm on the other side of the country....but alas...

Laini-Okay, you don't even have to bring the cake if you are in labor.

Kelly-I think we need some kind of vegetable thing....maybe a salad or maybe one of those tiny soups they serve in a shot glass. Whatdya think?

Count us in on the pity party! I keep comforting myself through a haze of hiccups and prosecco that we'll go next year and it will be bigger and better and we'll be celebrating some outrageous publishing deal.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
