The Triple Whammy...a.k.a the Holy Trinity of Distraction

First off, I tend to do things in threes: Three daughters, (I myself am one of three kids...a middle child of two middle children), usually three WIP's at a time, three cups of tea a day, that kind of thing.

So, it should come as no surprise that each year, I get to end my year with a triple whammy:

Christmas (which I love)

My anniversary (which is a blast)

and my third daughter's birthday (which also happens to be New Years Day).

That's right, folks, eleven years ago I had the first baby of the New Year for the city I lived in.

Imagine, if you will, TV reporters in your room at 3:00 a.m. interviewing you for the 6:oo a.m. News...

Reporter: So, Mrs. Thomas, (awkwardly looks at the HUGE bundle in my arms) is that your first ten pound baby?

Me: (Did he really just say that...???) Let's just say it's my last ten pound baby...(awkwardly laughs...does not make eye contact with camera).

Yes, eleven years ago on New Year's Eve, I was in labor and at 12:46 a.m., my little (not-so-little, actually) Cali was born.

So, um, the writing I get done in the week between Christmas and New Years looks like this:

not so much.

But, next week, when I get to go back to work, then I'll have time to write...

yeah....sure...

Happy Birthday, Caledonia.

Wow, you really do get down with celebrations this time of year! As for a 10-pounder--whew. You are more awesome than I already thought. Are you playing in the No-Kiss fest? I hope so. Happy, happy, happy (that's triple) New Year!

I've always heard that the first baby of the year gets perks. Hopefully you got a pack of free diapers or something for birthing a ten-pounder!

I always thought it'd be neat to have a new year baby. I had hopes that my oldest daughter would be one but she didn't make her appearance until a couple weeks later. How cool that you actually got one! I love her name by the way.

I was a 10-pound 8-ouncer, which my mother never let me forget. (I guess I was late--didn't want to make an appearance, which says a lot about me.) Anyway, happy celebrating!

Susan-Thank you! And a Happy New Year to you, too!

Sherrie-It was an awesome way to start a year.

Sarah-Thanks! Cali will be so happy she has so many birthday wishes.

Shannon-Happy New Year to you, too. Do you go back to school on Monday as well?

Tricia-10lbs, 3 oz....and three weeks early! (The other two were big, too, but not 10 pounders!) Can't decide about the no-kiss fest..I think I have a scene, if I can find it....

Catherine-funny story about that, actually...someone stole all of the stuff, claiming they were collecting for the New Year's baby...got nothing, except a private hospital room (who wants to share with the reporter magnet?)

Kelly-yes, funny now, but then...What???

Megan-My husband named her...she was either going to be Summer or Caledonia, depending on what he thought when he saw her. At 10 lbs, she was definitely Caledonia!

MG-Big babies are the best!! (I have forgiven Cali...but it was no picnic!)

Ha! That made me laugh. I can relate in a small way to the baby thing, but it was for the Valentine's baby and sans the cameras in the room... Okay, so not similar at all then...

But, hey! Thanks for the add and I love your blog!
