A Picture's Worth....

Recently I read some blogs posts which highlighted the importance of gathering visual images when writing a story. Natalie did a great job here. Weronika did one here

Very cool idea.

So I collected some of my own and collaged them together in a hodge-podgey kind of way:

This is for a book I finished the revision on recently:

I look at the pictures and it takes me right back into the story. I think I am going to do this on my next WIP while I am working on it, instead of after.

Love those images! For my first novel, the high fantasy, I have a white board with harp, dragon, handsome guy in jerkin, waterfall, castle. I need to do one for sea daughters, too.

Tricia-I would love to see your images for Sea Daughters. How is the new query coming along?

Ooh that IS a great idea. I have music soundtracks for all my stories but this would be so much fun. Thanks for sharing.

Happy Friday!

I love the collage, you can see a story oozing from it.

LOVE that collage. Ooh, this makes me want to pull something together for LIAR SOCIETY. In fact, I bet it would help us to get organized on what we'd like to include in the trailer.

Also, every single time I visit your blog I wish that you'd go on tour reading so I could take my kids to see you live. So, um, make that happen, ok?

I love photos! I collect all sorts of photos and keep them filed by book so I can look at them when I'm writing.

I've done this a little bit and I agree it helps set a mood for me when I write. Lovely images you've collected here...

Love this idea! I have to try this!

I totally do this. Not only does it help me get right into my story, but I stay consistent with my characters' physical characteristics. I put photos of my main characters, info on them, and pics that just make me feel the book/the mood of the book.

I never congratulated you on getting your agent because you signed when I was being a flaky blogger, and I realized really late. I'm sooo happy for you!! Congrats, congrats, congrats!

Big hugs,
Dawn

SF-Feel free...I totally stole it from someone else!

Karen Amanda-I don't have the music component yet...hmmmm...

Niki-Aw, thank you!

L and L-I'd love to see your Liar Society photo fest! And as for touring....well.....who knows!

Kiki-I don't know why I haven't done this before...it was not only fun, but very thought provoking.

Tess-funny that you mentioned mood. That was key in selecting the pictures I did. They had to have the right mood.

Julie-let me know how it goes.

Dawn-I am so with you (and Tess) about keeping with the mood!
and thanks for the congrats.

Steph-I'd love to see what your photo fest would look like!
