Authors, Authors Everywhere!!

First off....home is a wonderful place!

And I will give my thoughts on The Wizarding World of Harry Potter on Monday (as soon as I can get my sleepyheads to upload their pictures for me....my camera ran out of batteries....sigh.)

However, reading over the old blog-o-la, I realized that I neglected to post a picture of the Rolling Reader event I did a few weeks ago:
This is Meiko Patton, Gerald McDermott and me (it is hard to see the tiara in this photo, but it is there).

I sat in between the two of them for most of the evening and laughed a lot. Gerald's tie was awesome. He has a new book coming out int he spring about a trickster Monkey from India.

I got to talk with Janell Cannon about her WIP and it is going to be very cool. Many of the authors at the event were author/illustrators and it was fun to hear how different the process is between those who "see" their stories and those of us who "hear" them.

Great event.

Then, the following Saturday, I was in Barnes and Noble picking up a little summer reading and who should be there but Sarah Pennypacker (of Clementine fame). She was signing and talking to kids about her passion for her characters. I was eavesdropping a little...trying not to look too weird. Then I introduced myself and we chatted for a moment*. She has a delightful voice. I could listen to her talk about writing forever.

THEN, the very next day, I was in Disneyland and who should be there signing books but Gail Carson Levine!! Seriously. Hopefully, I can get one of the sleepyheads to find that photo in one of their magical phones so I can post it. (Even though I was pretty thrashed at the time...post rollercoaster and all...and no tiara) Gail is so petite! It was a thrill for young Cali to get her book signed, and a thrill for all of us to meet her*. Her Princess Tales are still among my favorite middle grade reads.

So, the next week, totally NO author sightings. What is up with that?

I was on a roll.

hrh

*I find it so weird to introduce myself to other authors at their events...."Oh, by the way, I am a writer, too....my name is blah-di-blah-blah...." It is just weird. But conversely, if I am the one in the chair signing, I don't find it strange at all if a another writer introduces themself and says thathe/she is an author as well.

Erm, I meant to let you know about my post before it happened, but then I forgot. Kiersten and I were messaging back and forth like crazy, and I had a house full of extra children yesterday. Are we okay?

And I know what you mean about telling other authors about the writing, but they're so much more understanding than non-writers. :o)

I can't believe Gail Carson Levine was at Disneyland -- how cool! I keep running into authors at the Santa Barbara indie book store, Chaucers. My kids now think it's a magical place where they'll meet authors every time they go :)

Myrna-I am thrilled to be included!! (And the Good Knight is thrilled as well!)

Sherrie-I just tried to post a comment on your blog, but blogger was hungry and ate it. Will try again. And about Gail at Disney...I had seen on her blog she was going to be there, but totally forgot until I was in a store and saw a sign. She was very nice.

What a cute blog you have. So cheerful and inviting. I like the tiara. I've read other posts, but can't remember if I've commented or not.

Have a great day!

I can't wait to see your photos and hear your tales of Harry Potter World--I hope you didn't cook in that heat!

Blogger had some meltdown with comments, so I suggest if anyone notices comments not taking or disappearing after you know they were there, you click the Help button on your dashboard, then on help forums and leave a message. That's the only way to let them know the problem continues.

I love that photo of you with Meiko and Gerald--and your pretty books on the table. :D Yay, for author sightings!

You are so lucky! I hardly ever bump into children's book writers!

It sounds like you had a great week!

Susanne-Thank you for stopping by! Glad you like the blog. I just redid the background so it would kind of look like dragon scales...

Tricia-Our day at HPW was overcast! It was as close to perfect weatherwise as possible (in Florida, in July)

Lydia-Me either!! That's why it was all the more cool, so many within the space of one week! Now I'll probably have the rest of the year with none....

Sharon-It was pretty fantastic to get to meet so many authors (any buy books for signing!)

That looks like it was SO much fun! I would totally have made a nuisance of myself and begged everyone for autographs if I'd been there :) And you went to Harry Potter World?!?!?! I am so jealous. My best friend and I just went to Disney World for our birthdays last year, but the HP park didn't get finished til this year :(( Looks like another trip to Orlando is in order. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on it! Did you dress up?

It's my job to inspect books, and thanks for writing such good ones :)

And it's so very cool that Gail Carson Levine was at Disneyland!

Julie- I was dressed as me..which may or may not look dressed up at any given time. I am so excited to post my HP thoughts....just waiting for the pix from my girls!

Elana-I can see it now...."No, we can't sign a book for you right now, can't you see we're having a conversation here? We're solving the problems of the world, goshdarnit!" hehehe

Sarah-Well, it takes a very special person to oversee the books. And thanks again for taking such good care of mine. And Gail (I can call her that now, since I've seen her in person) is truly a lovely person. I was quite lucky that day1

Dawn- I WAS running into authors...now not so much....oh well, 'twas wonderful while it lasted!
