Stuff I Like

I wrote a lot yesterday. It felt good. I think I know where the story is going, but there are surprises along the way, even for me.

That is the best thing about writing: when your own story surprises you.

Love*love*love* when that happens.

Other things I love today:

1. Hot tea in the morning brought to me by my husband as I sit at my non-desk (TV tray these days actually). He know just how long to leave the bag in, which isn't very long. I don't like it if it's too dark. blech.

2. Guacamole. Yep, feel like making a big ole bowl of it tonight and eating myself silly with salty-salty chips. yum.

3. Fresh water pearls. I bought a necklace last week in Santa Fe that had freshwater pearls and some turquoise and I love it so much. Usually I wear freshwater pearl earrings everyday that dangle just a tad. (StoryQueen secret: I don't change my earrings but for very special occasions. When I had my third child, something just had to go. There was only so much time in the day, so it was earrings. Sigh. Someday, maybe I'll have cool earrings with every outfit again, but for now, I rarely think about them.) But now I have an awesome necklace....lalalala.

4. My hair. Oh, I am in a debate with myself as to whether to cut it or not....it is the longest it has been in a while and silverish, but I really don't want it to look like I am a hippie or a witch. But today, it looks kind of cool. (maybe because it's overcast....?) Anyway, it feels soft and not wirey and, well, today I like it.

5. My Agent. Joanna Stampfel-Volpe is the best. Seriously. THE best. IN THE WORLD. How I ever managed without an agent all those years is due to sheer dumb luck. * I bounced some new ideas off of her yesterday and she was so encouraging. (She has a new blog....you should check her out....maybe someday you'll be as lucky as I am and get to work with her....)

What are you loving today?

hrh

*Yeah, I had to stick a Harry Potter reference in...just because....that was a Professor McGonogall-ism.

I'm a tea lover too. :) And I wish I could have some of your guacamole because we've got no avocados at my house. And I always wear the same earrings, often for months and months at a time. So much in common!

Great news on the happy surprises in your writing!

Lydia-yeah, I gotta go to the store and hope to find good avocados....it will stink if they are all too hard.

Hope your writing is going well!

You're necklace sounds fabulous. I love turquoise and pearls, but I can't remember ever seeing them together.

I love teaching the toddler story time at our library on Fridays. And I love it when kids that aren't my own are comfortable enough with me that they'll crawl up on my lap to show me things.

And on a different note, I love that my eleven-year-old is reading and loving my YA fantasy.

Ha! A hippy or a witch. That's funny. I saw the picture of your at Harry Potter land, and you are not either...although being a witch there may not have been a bad thing. What in the world are fresh water pearls? I'm picturing pearls dripping with sea water. Sounds messy.

Coincidence...I just finished making a pearl and turquoise necklace for a friend I'm visiting in CA before the SCBWI LA conference next weekend. Are you going to the conference????

I love pearls! They are so simple and classy and your necklace sounds beautiful :) And I love that you stuck in an HP reference! Congrats on your fabulous agent, I have heard so many good things about her from the authors she represents.

Can I be sappy for a minute? Right now, I love my husband most today. I have been a huge grump lately, but he still greats me with a smile and is taking me on a date night. He does make it hard to keep up the grump routine, though!

Myrna-Turquoise and pearls are a new favorite of mine....and I would love to see you and your toddlers at storytime! (There's this great book about a Good Knight I've heard of.....)

Jessie-When the hair gets long and grey...well, hippie or witch are the two main choices. Or you can cut it too short and go straight to old lady.
'Tis a fine line a dance.
And freshwater pearls are those little lumpy pearls that look like fairy potatoes. They are not perfect, but I love them just the same.

Gail-Your friend is so lucky! And I am not sure if I am going to SCBWI. It is close enough for me to drive....and in the Spring I really wanted to go...but the summer has been crazy and I could really use the weekend to write. What to do....?

Julie-Thank you! I am not really a jewelry person...well, except for the enormous number of rhinestones I own...okay, so I AM a jewelry person...but not expensive jewelry. But this little necklace is not like the usual over-the-top variety I wear as the queen...and for some reason it makes me quite happy.

Beth-Of course you can be sappy! Your husband sounds like a doll. (Sorry, didn't mean to snap into old-lady-diner-speak....what is wrong with me?) Hope the date is just swell. (sorry, did it again.)

Lol, a hippy or a witch.

Love today - the beach where the humidity wasn't noticeable and it wasn't unbearably hot and

Love/Hate doing revisions that go wonderfully one minute, then terribly the next.

And yes to avocados, pearls and turquoise...

I'm loving the simple pleasures of summer catching frogs with the kids today.
When my kids were infants, I wore the same post earrings til they were two. I'm usually a hoop wearer but little ones pull!
Enjoy your new necklace!

I laughed out loud at the hippie or witch thing! Your hair looks gorgeous in your pic and I think your hip glasses set you apart from either a hippie or a witch!
