Sisters

A sister is a person who......

-tells you that icecream is really made with broccoli.

-gets mad when you wear the same outfit as she is wearing...(Hey, I couldn't help it....we owned the same clothes because mom made us matching outfits.)

-stays up at night telling you stories about what life would be like if you were really rich (we called it richety-rich). I would have had a blue canopy bed, in case you were wondering.

-tells you things NOT to do in Junior High before you start.

-gets up with you early on Saturday mornings to watch cartoons.

-stays up with you late on Saturday nights to watch the Creepy Creature Feature.

-holds your hand after a particularly bad boyfriend break-up.

-sits next to you in college and draws pictures of boring professors being surrounded by sharks.

-helps to usher all three of your babies into the world and loves them as if they were her own.

-even though she lives far away from you now, you know she is always there for you.

-Always.

I think the bonds of sisterhood are so beautiful....sometimes completely warped, but magical nonetheless. Some of my strongest childhood memories involve my sister and me.

How lucky my girls are to each not have ONE sister but TWO.

I wonder what their greatest memories of each other will be.

hrh

P.S. My favorite literary sisters were the March girls from Little Women. Any other well-loved sisters (literary or otherwise) out there?

Happy Birthday, S.C.M.D.

Oh, I LOVE this post. And you are so lucky to have three girls. My sisters are my best friends. I mean who else is going to tell you that you need to wax your eyebrows and *ahem* maybe even other parts of your face.

Ooh, the March sisters are very hard to top. I'd have to say that Jane and Elizabeth Bennett were pretty awesome sisters. My sister used to give me cool lessons in grade school. She was WAY cooler than me, and I wanted to know how. I wished I could have sat next to her in class while she drew pictures of professors for me, but she was married by the time I went to college. So sad (for me, not her). I hope I have another daughter so that my baby girl can have a sister.

By the way, I don't need cool lessons anymore.

Has anyone here read The Penderwicks? Those sisters are up there with the March sisters for me!

Dang it! I don't have a sister... only brothers... but I love them. Childhood memories are the best.

My sister lives two states away from me and I miss her so much! There is something truly magical about the bond of sisters (when you've grown up and can appreciate it!). :-)

I have three sisters, and I love having one of them next door.

The March sisters were my favorites too.

Little Women was THE best!

My little sister and I are close, but you're right... a warped and very unique relationship.

Thanks for the sweet post. I am going to go and call my sister right now!

Aw, beautiful. Your sister sounds incredible.

I don't have any sisters, but I have two brothers who rock. Yay for awesome sibs! Having a brother or sister you're close to--someone who shares your memories, joys, and pains--is way better than being richety-rich!

Awwwww :)

I am the middle of three girls and although it had its evil moments, sisterhood is something amazing. I only see mine now a few times a year but I love them to pieces.

So glad my own two daughters have each other! :)

I loved the "richety-rich" bit - can I borrow that? :)

I was an only child, so I loved Anne of Green Gables, and I envied the March sisters. I envy you the things you list in this post. Even the ice cream is broccoli part.

Lo and behold, I have been blessed with four daughters, my own set of litte women! I think I've told you that before though in comments. Believe, I'm taking notes on their interactions. Great story material
