This is it....

I HAVE to finish my collection of animal surfing poems by Monday night at 12:00 or I vowed to eat the one poem that is giving me fits.

I don't really want to eat the poem.

So, I will be nose down this weekend, trying to be funny, witty and rhymey. (The only problem is the fact that I am soooooo tired!)

In other news.....I will be celebrating the burning of Zozobra (a Santa Fe tradition) a week early...as in tonight, because it seemed like the Thomas house needed a small celebration.

In Santa Fe, they make this giant puppet called Old Man Gloom (aka Zozobra). He is stuffed with newspapers.

Then they torch him.

I heard once that it is an attempt to burn away all of the bad news from the past year and start anew.

That may be.

But for us, it's a time to eat great New Mexico green chile and have fun with friends. (I usually make a little Zozobra out of a toilet paper roll for the fireplace. It's not like being in Santa Fe, for nothing is like being in Santa Fe, but is signifies to the Thomas Fam the beginning of Fall. I love Fall...it's my favorite!)

Fall is my favorite, too. Sometimes the air gets so crisp and clear, I can see the trees atop mountains miles and miles away. In SoCal, this is miraculous. And I have a thing for Halloween.
I never heard of Zozobra. I shall (in my reporterly way) go look him up. It sounds fascinating.
I know you'll finish that poem, and it'll be mighty fine. Deadlines do that, and besides wouldn't you rather eat a celebratory cupcake or something?

Cool tradition!

I love the fall, too. This is the best time of year for so many fruits and veges and I love when the air gets crisp...not that we've made it there yet!

No wonder he's gloomy - did you see how he's dressed?

I hope you love your poem by Monday. It can be hard to force poems, but if you're thinking about it, something great may come to you.

What an interesting tradition! I love discovering local traditions like this. Now you simply must post a picture of your toilet paper zozobra.

Aren't you the crock pot wiz? I'd say, stick the poem in the crock pot. It may go down easier....IF you need to. Which you won't. Because you are totally going to finish on time.

Burn, baby. Burn.

Zozobra...this is such a cool tradition! And the torching pic is great.

I hate having to force rhyminess. Mind goes blank. You'll get it done; then go have a sinfully good cupcake instead!

Mmmm... Hatch green chiles... I've a whole freezer full of them.

I've never torched a Zozobra, but now I'm sorely tempted! I think I just might have to start a new Alston tradition now. :o)

Thanks, Shelley. Have a lovely fall celebration!

*hugs*

I hope you get your poem finished in time so you don't have to eat it. Doesn't sound too yummy.
I've never heard of Zozobra. Interesting tradition. Fall and spring are my favorite seasons.
Have a great day!

How many calories does a poem have?
