What I Did This Week

1. Had a debate with a 12 year-old over which book was better: CATCHING FIRE or MOCKINGJAY. (I was for CF myself.) It's pretty cool to have literary discussions with kids. I might just like them better than with adults, because with kids, you get to a point in the discussion where you just have to draw your wand or your lightsaber, you know? Grown-ups don't always get that. They just want to talk things out. What gives?

2. Had take-out twice. One time burritos. One time sub sandwiches. Neither was great, but there was just no time to make food this week.

3. Acted as backstage chaperone for highschool choral show. (Actually, I haven't really done that yet. I have to do it tonight....in a few minutes to be exact. Wish me luck. I'll need it.)

4. Oh, and this:

Yes, that is a little toilet seat on the very top of the wagon. Don't ask.

The Good Knight (and his mustache) direct the wagon packing.

The annual Good Knight/Read Across America Play at my school. This year, we did the brand new story: A GOOD KNIGHT'S REST. It was really tons of fun, probably because there was lots of falling down. Except for me. I didn't fall down, though I did get a squirt gun to the face and a gigantic fluffy-puffy marshmallow stuffed in my mouth. Good times. Oh, to live in your own story, even for a moment. Sigh.

What did you do this week?

Well, your week was much more exciting than mine! I was out of town for work for a few days - but I did get to take my students out to a terrific musical performance! :)

I wish there was video! That is so cool that you get to live in your Good Knight story, with or without toilet seats. ;)

Nothing I do is as exciting as what you did. Wow.

I love discussing books with young people. They haven't yet learned the insider vocab., you know, "I thought the story arc just didn't work." or " The foreshadowing was so obvious." or "What's with the epilogue? Nobody does denouement (pronounced day-gnu-moknt) anymore!

Can't top that. Bought daisies to entice Spring to keep coming.

Aww, those were great things to do this week! I read a TON of Dr. Seuss books (and they held the attention of 3-year-olds, which is saying a lot!

You are one of those cool adults that all children love. I mean toilet seats on wagons and marshmallows in your face...just awesome. I hope your next week allows you eat not-take-out.

lol. Love the toilet seat! It reminds me of some imagination I saw this week: One of my kiddos sat on a Halloween trick-or-treat bucket and announced, "Potty. Poop in potty!" Luckily, he was pretending!

Jemi-I love choral shows. The one I chaperoned last night was great. Part of it tells the story of Romeo and Juliet. I got teary.

Tricia-I meant to get a video, but I am always running around like crazy and always forget something. It's hard because the kids aren't "mine", I have to borrow them from different classes....trying to remember when I need who....mind boggling. But hilarious.

Yat-Yee-Ha! yes, kids are great in lit discussions. Peter (the 12 year old) and I were discussing what Suzanne Collins was trying to say about war with her books. But when we couldn't decide, we brought out the weapons. Yes, nice irony.

Catherine-I want a week like yours next week! Daisies....sigh.

Erica-My fave is Green Eggs and Ham. Believe it or not, I do an awesome rap version. True dat.

Jessie-I don't know if cool is the right word...dork is probably better. But I embrace the dorkitude, so there's that.

Carla-Not too far off, a pumpkin potty! When I was looking for a potty chair for the play (it needed to look like a potty) I couldn't find one! They all look like frogs or saddles or firetrucks now. (No pumpkins yet). We settled for a small toilet seat to get the idea across.

OH MY GOSH! How amazing to watch your story come to life on stage! The toilet seat was funny lol! I secretly love mcdonalds and tacobell. Guess my tastes aren't very refined. I do try to limit those places to once a week or once every couple of weeks, but I'd eat there every day if I knew it wouldn't give me a coronary. Heavily buttered pancakes come to mind too....I think I'm hungry.

I'm packing for vacation- did waaay too much grading this week.

And I really liked Mockingjay, but I think Catching Fire might have been better. That's a tough call!

That must be so special to see kids act out your story!! So fun!
My week was full of errands and watching my kids' basketball games (which I love to do - the games not the errands).
