Naughty Boys that I Love

No, I'm talking about Bad Boys.  Not those sultry, dark, broody types that attract girls like certain substances (that I will not name here) attract flies. (But if you are every interested in finding or picking up some of that substance with a small shovel, I have a whole bunch in my backyard. Have at it!)

I am talking about naughty boys.  What IS it about a naughty boy that is just so delightfully compelling?  When I was working on a book that had a very, very naughty boy for a character, I pretty much laughed myself to sleep each night.  Honestly, it was the most fun I ever had writing. The surprising thing is that I never ran out of naughty ideas for him to enact.  Perhaps that is why we love them so much.  They do the naughty things that we cannot.

Here are a few of my favorites:

I love the Weasley Brothers.  And they are just so pea-picking naughty!  They jokes, the pranks, the devil-may-care attitudes.  Sigh.  They are just awesomely naughty.  I actually might have cheered aloud when I was sitting on my couch reading Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and I came to that scene where Fred and George drop out of Hogwarts and fly off into the sunset.  I reread it many times.

I love these guys, too.  Harold and George from the Captain Underpants series by Dav Pilkey.  (Is there something innately naughty about the name George???)  They are awesomely naughty AND continue to save the world on a regular basis.  Stellar combination.

These guys, too.  Bill and Ted are neither egregious nor heinous.  They are just awesomely naughty.  Be excellent to each other, boys.

And then there is this guy!  Zachary Ruthless!  I am so excited to read this book, because I do have a soft spot for the awesomely naughty.  My treat for myself this weekend (if I get my other stuff done) is to get to read it!  Ooooooh!  Just look at him and his ginger sidekick. Are they saving the world?  Or blowing it up?  The suspense is killing me.  Can't wait.

(And congratulations to Allan Woodrow, the creator of Zachary.  His book just released this week!  Yay!)

So...who is your favorite naughty boy?  And you don't have to limit it to one......

I lurves the Weasley twins! Even though Fred and George had an edge to their attitude and their pranks, their core values were solid. I remember when they left the ton tongue toffee for Dudley and Mr. Weasley accused the of muggle bating. Fred was adamant that they hadn't done it because Dudley was a muggle. They left it because Dudley was a git. And when everyone was treating Harry like his was dangerous in CoS, they had a right good time making fun of the entire situation.

And Bill and Ted ... I've always loved their use of words. Bodacious!

O.K. This one goes way back.... Dennis the Menace! LOL! Dennis was always into some mischief and driving Mr. Wilson crazy. Hahaha... I'm laughing just thinking about him.

And of course, the Little Rascals...

BTW... Zachary Ruthless sounds like a fun read!

Fun post!

When I worked at the newspaper, Captain Underpants had made its debut and some were trying to have it banned from school libraries. So, I put the word out to kids, SAVE CAPTAIN UNDERPANTS! We published their letters and pictures they drew!

Naughty boys rule! :-)

You know how to pick them! That part where Peeves salutes them is my favorite part in the whole series. Have you seen the brand new trailer with the spoilerish shot of Fred? It made my eyes water, and the shot only took like half a second. Of course, the shot of Mrs. Weasely going after Bellatrix gave me chills. I cannot wait for July.

I absolutely love Calvin and Hobbes. Genius.

And did you read the Afterword or Acknowledgements at the end of the first Captain Underpants, where Dav Pilkey thumbed his nose at the teacher who told him he couldn't make a living drawing comics? Bwahahahaha!

I adore the Weasely brothers. Fred was my favorite character in the HP series.
The mischievous are definitely amusing to read.

I have to agree wholeheartedly with you on this one. I LOVED the Weasley twins as well. They were my favorite characters in the H.P. books. I had a couple of 'naughty' boys in the first book I wrote. It was hard to let them go and move on to book 2.

I have been meaning to get Bill and Ted's so my kids can watch it. I was just thinking about it the other day! Thanks for the extra reminder :)

Am I allowed to say Charlie Sheen? Although I'm worried about him and his recent public behavior...

Bill and Ted rock!

Huck Finn, though he's a bit older, I think, than these guys. When you think about it, he was a truant runaway.

And Calvin of Calvin and Hobbes. And he was imaginatively naughty to boot.

Also, wanted to tell you that I'm seeing U2 soon! You're a fan, right?
