Road Trip Give Away!!!

No, I am not giving away a road trip.

However, to celebrate the fact that my new book baby has been in the world for a month, and also to acknowledge that it is the ultimate going-on-a-trip-in-a-confined-space-with-kids book, I am going to give away a copy of A GOOD KNIGHT'S REST.

Here's all you have to do to win:

1.  Leave a comment telling me where you are road-tripping to this summer by July 11.
2.  When I have all the entries, I will take a map of the US and I will throw something at it (like a dart if it is hanging up, or a penny if it is on the floor--I don't quite have the logistics figured out yet).  Wherever my flung-object lands will determine the winner of the book!  (So your road-trip must be somewhere findable on a US map.)
3.  And if you want to tell me about your favorite road trip ever and it makes me laugh, cry or sigh wistfully, I just might be giving away a another surprise something as well.

And I don't want to brag or anything...but Jennifer did an AMAZING job with the illustrations.  Every time I read the book to kids, I notice a little something different she put into the pictures.  I am so lucky to have such a talented artist bringing the little dragons and their every faithful knight to life.

Aren't they cute?  They would just love to travel to your house..as long as you have potato chips...and bushes.

We are driving up to Minnesota this summer, to visit my folks in North Branch (that's about an hour north of the Twin Cities).

The best road trip ever was last summer, when we drove from eastern Nebraska to California and back again, making lots of stops along the way. I swam in the ocean in San Diego with my kids for the first time. But even better than that was when we stopped at Sequoia National Park to see the "big trees." Wow.

I don't have any real road trips planned this summer, but I may take the train to Portland, Oregon. Does that count? :)

One of my favorite road trips was one we took to the mountains when my daughter was a toddler. We bought her a toy deer that she named Deer-Deer, and she'd hold it next to the window, pretending Deer-Deer was standing outside the car in all these scenic places.

We're driving to Keystone, Colorado this August to meet up with my Texas sister and her family (the Kentucky sister couldn't make it). I have so many fond memories of long road-trips as a kid. We traveled from the Midwest to California in a station wagon one summer, hitting lots of national parks on the way. My favorite memory has to be when we got stuck in a traffic jam on the Golden Gate bridge and I had to pee (I had a notoriously small bladder). I fondly recall having to do my business into a extra-large gas station coke cup that my sister chugged down while shooting daggers at me with her sun-swollen eyes. Ah, life! ...wait. Wait just a minute. That wasn't fun at all. At. All.

Congratulations on your new book, Shelley! What a fun contest!!!

We're taking a road trip to Minnesota, Canada and Michigan later this summer. We've never lived this far north before, so we thought it would be fun to do a loop up into Canada. :)

My favorite road trip was after I finished my BSE and my husband finished his MS. We got in my first ever new car and headed west. We went west all the way to Santa Fe, then turned north. We stopped in Denver and then turned East. It was spectacular! The scenery was so different than Arkansas. The Rockies were amazing! It was a great feeling to own my first car and to have put myself through college and student teaching. I felt like I was on top of the world. I used lots of the photos from my trip with my third grade class later that year when I got my first teaching job...

We're driving up to Salt Lake to meet Ben's parents at the airport when they come home from Prague. I wish I could say we were meeting them in Prague.

Kansas! And I think I have a pretty good shot because that's right in the middle. My favorite road trip was fourteen years ago when I was 17. My family took an RV to Glacier National Park. I think that's what heaven looks like.
