Google Surprises

Okay, so I was googling my name the other day....just to see if my blog would come up, or to see if one of my books was mentioned somewhere (it happens....one time I saw that one of my books was being featured at Dutch Wonderland! Seriously, dude. Dutch Wonderland!! I was totally jazzed. There was even a theme song that played on the website that got stuck in my head.)

Anyway, on about the sixth or seventh page, this came up

description for shelley moore thomas

''The Last Rose of Summer'' is a poem by Irish poet Thomas Moore, who was a friend of Byron and Shelley. Moore wrote it in 1805 while at Jenkinstown Park in County Kilkenny, Ireland.

Say what?

So naturally I had to find this poem that is me.

And folks, it is really lovely:

'Tis the last rose of summer

Left blooming alone;
All her lovely companions
Are faded and gone;
No flower of her kindred,
No rosebud is nigh,
To reflect back her blushes,
To give sigh for sigh.

I'll not leave thee, thou lone one!
To pine on the stem;
Since the lovely are sleeping,
Go, sleep thou with them.
Thus kindly I scatter,
Thy leaves o'er the bed,
Where thy mates of the garden
Lie scentless and dead.

So soon may I follow,
When friendships decay,
From Love's shining circle
The gems drop away.
When true hearts lie withered
And fond ones are flown,
Oh! who would inhabit,
This bleak world alone?

It's kind of a sad poem, but if I had to find a poem when I googled myself, I could really do a lot worse. I mean, it could have been a limerick that rhymed Shelley with smelly.......

hrh

And I was NOT googling myself just as a way to put off working on the end. Really.

See, I get blood covered prom queens and "Hey, Carrie Ann, what's your game and can anyone play?"

My game, of course, is Trivial Pursuit. And yes, anyone can play.

Yeah, once when we googled ourselves we found a poem that was supposedly authored by us and it was TERRIBLE. I have no idea how it was attributed to us, but I definitely blame Laura. It's definitely somehow her fault.

I'm still a little horrified. Let's hope editors don't get that far down into the results.

Oh that bl***y ending lol

Love the poem. I admit to googling myself to and I am an author somewhere in a the US apparently haha

Anyway Shelley was a wonderful poet. He hung out in a threesome with Byron and Keats. They shared their work a little how we share ours here on the internet. How things have changed lol

Carrie-I might just give you a run for your money on Trivial Pursuit. I am a bastion of useless knowledge. (Only a true possessor of useless knowledge would use the term bastion.)

L and L- I REALLY want to read that poem....just might have to google you guys.......

Wend- Yes, it is pretty cool having the names of two famous poets all jumbled into one.

And, I just found a youtube with Clannad playing the Last Rose of Summer, so it's a song, too!

(Back now to the bl&%$y ending!)

Lazy- Oh come on! You know you want to try it. If you don't, then I'll google for you!

LOL! I love it. I'm not the only neurotic writer. Just kidding! Seriously, I've known folks to steal info from other sites so it is a great way to keep tabs on your writing. I'm jealous of your Joan Wilder day! I've been running ragged since my feet hit the floor this morning...BUT...tomorrow is Friday and hopefully things will calm down a bit. Enjoy those jammies for me!

Beautiful poem! There's some writer that shows up when I type in my name who isn't me. I think she's in Singapore or something. Don't you wish we had the power to delete something from Google sometimes?

Amy-good point....but I can't see anyone wanting to steal the stuff I sling up on my blog! (Last day before schools starts....protesting in jammies)

Kelly-your last name is so unusual, maybe you'll be able to find your blog easily!

Steph-Yes, I wish that I could delete the fact the the two other Shelley Moore's out there (without the Thomas part) are either a 19 year old beauty queen or a conservative congresswoman....
weird.

Ooo, how pretty!! Lucky you!

I have a fake rivalry (meaning, only me and my husband — and now you — know about it) with Stephanie Perkins of Australia. That girl is EVERYWHERE in search engines.
