Where No One Has Gone Before.....

My mission:  To create a synopsis for a book that is only half written,(which is a sequel to a finished book) and mini-synopses for two other planned books in the series that have yet to be written....to boldly write where I have never written before.....

The thing is, if I write a synopsis before I write the book, which I have always kind of wanted to do (remember the fake query contest idea....??) will the synopsis kind of be like an.....OUTLINE???

AAAAAAAAUUUUUUGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!

Will I feel married to the synopsis?  Will it stifle the creative me?  Will the seat of my pants feel neglected?

(I think I need to trade in Indiana Jones for Captain James T. Kirk on this one....)

How about you just date the synopsis and leave the marriage option open? These stories never turn out the way we think they will when we actually start typing.

You mean you're going to charter the uncharted territory? I can't wait to get a hologram or something about your progress.

I totally get it. I've struggled with the same quandry before :D

I think you can always change a synopsis if you feel the story needs to go in another direction. If you treat it like more of a "maybe" guide instead of treating it like it's etched in stone you may be able to stick to it better. I hope that made sense.

Ha, I've been feeling the same way about an outline I've been working on. In fact, I was thinking of putting it in paragraph form so I could fool myself into thinking it was a synopsis rather than an outline. But you know what, each project is different, and even us extreme pantsers might need some structure every once in a while. Good luck!

This is the only thing that scares me about being published-- editors want synopses, which takes away a LOT of the freedom I have when I'm writing. Ah well...

You had me at the title, and then you added the picture. Sweet!

Myrna-hahahaha! I love that. I'll just date the synopsis!

Tricia-Provided there IS progress.....

Sherrie-So, how did it work out for you?? Do tell!

Hayley-What you say makes perfect sense...I'm just doing just a bit of a head trip on myself....yikes.

Ann-I am Definitely doing it in paragraph form!!

LT-Well, I was never really afraid of it...until now....

Kelly-Can't wait until I HAVE answers to these questions!

Shannon-You know, that new young Kirk in the new STar Trek is the one I'm talking about...not William Shatner Kirk....WSK would just be wayyyy to controlling and probably explode my manuscript!

PJ-Just one more thing we have in common.....

Oh, I so feel you on this. And then when I want to go a different direction, then what???

Uh, good luck?? :)

I don't think so. Haven't you ever made plans and then changed them last minute because the weather wasn't cooperating? I don't see why you have to be married to an outline just cause you wrote it. Heck, some people don't even stay married to their spouses despite taking VOWS!

Oh, and ha, ha to Myrna. Just read her comment :)

Elana-What are you doing, replying on my blog when you have the hugest news in the world!!!!????? Congrautlations, dahling.

Corey-yes, that's what the logical part of my brain says...but the neurotic part says..."Crud!"

Jonathon-Well, I better make it back or someone else is gonna have to take over the castle...
