Summer Wishes

I wish I was not so picky about my own writing. (However, sometimes, I wish I was pickier.)

Brave Irene was always one of my favorites.  Oh, that dastardly wind!

I wish William Steig had written more books for children.  His use of words still strikes wonder in my heart.  He had such wit!  I wish there were more books like that today--books that are not just picture books, but STORY books, with long tales alive with the wonder that is Language.

I wish gluten-free pizza tasted more like pizza.

I wish the slowness and ease of summer days didn't pass so quickly.

I wish I knew how to write the ending for BOOM.

I wish I would talk with people whenever I wanted to--without regard to schedules and failing technology. (Yes, I hate my cell-phone right now.)

I wish my 13 year-old could drive herself around.  (Well, not really.  But kind of.)

I wish the nectarines you get in July could last all year.

I wish I understood the whole Higgs boson particle thing.  I mean, I HAVE TRIED.  I have read about it and listened to experts explain it--even Bill Nye the Science Guy.  But alas, this is what I am left with:

Random Person:  Hey Shelley, can you explain that whole Higgs boson particle thing to me?  It's kind of confusing.

Me:  Well, there's this thing--very small thing--that the scientists always thought would be there.  Well, not always.  I mean, there was probably a time when they were thinking about other things, but anyway, lots of scientists thought is was there, but they couldn't prove it. BUT NOW THEY CAN!

Random Person: But what is it?

Me:  Well, it's so small that you can't really see it.  I mean, I wouldn't worry about it if I were you...it's not like it's going to jump up and eat off your face or anything....er, um, like flesh eating bacteria, which by the way, you also can't see.  If I were you, I 'd worry more about having my face eaten off by invisible bacteria than that little invisible thing that has a kind of pretentious name, if you ask me.

So....um...yeah.

On a different note altogether, I will be appearing at Barnes and Noble's Pajama-rama Storytime this Friday (and every Friday in July) at 7:00 p.m.  (It's the B and N in Oceanside).  Anyway, this Friday evening will feature a Celtic story or two, and some fun activities.  And yes, my puppets will be there! Elvis the alien is especially excited!

Summer wishes, anyone?

Oh, a Celtic story does sound fun! And from the mom of a girl with a driver's permit...well, it's kind of scary.

Love your wishes! Okay here goes: I wish summer would slow down and cool off just a little. I wish I was a better manager of my time. I wish watermelon would cut itself. I wish I had a farmers market on my front lawn.

Wish I could come to your Pajama-rama storytime. Alas, I believe I live too far away...

I wish peaches were as juicy as they were when I was a kid. Dry, mealy peaches are blecchh!

You had me laughing uproariously at the Higgs Boson thingie. I hear ya!

Don't be in any hurry to have your daughter drive. Believe me. Worrying about them when they're driving on their own is by far one of the greatest worries a parent can have!

I wish my daughter would pass her driver's test. She gets so nervous, but is getting better. Tonight she drove home in the dark. I didn't squeal one time. :)

Those are good wishes!

I especially love the one about slowing down these summer days - YES!

Nectarines! I could live in a world of nectarines. Let's see, if I'm world-building, it's summer year-round and I live in an orchard. Hmm, that sounds a bit like Fairie.
And as for that particle thingie, I think they call it the God particle because they don't know what it is either. I like your explanation better than any I've tried to sort!
