Flirting With a New Idea

It's kind of magical when you first get an idea.

You see it looking at you and so you look back, yet it looks away quickly.

Was that idea just looking at me? It was, wasn't it?

So you chase it around a bit, discreetly of course.  I mean, you could have imagined it, right?  Maybe it was an idea meant for someone else, not you at all.

There it is again.

It just winked.

And so now you are determined to meet up with that idea.  You are going to find out what it is up to.  So, you kind of stalk it a bit.    You hang out where it hangs out.  You listen to the music it likes.  You pretend that you  are having a great time with your other don't really need this idea after all.  It's not like you are desperate.  You have plenty of other ideas that would be happy to have your attention....and yet there is something about this idea that is Just.So.Compelling.

And you really don't want to scare it away.

It just might be the ONE.

So, anyone else out there chasing a new idea?

Okay, usually I KNOW my idea will work when the title is right (even if I end up changing the title midway through...I have to have the title first.)

Confession:  I do not have the title for the new idea.  It's killing me.

Good luck with your new idea. It's bad enough having to come up with ideas for this A-Z challenge at the moment. I havent even thought about any stories. :(

I flirt with new ideas all the time, heehee! But I just write them down and save it for later and get back to whatever I'm working on. It's great knowing that ideas are always around us though!

I wish I had more ideas. That's one reason why I like work-for-hire. Give me something to write about, and I'll run with it. So if you have any extra ideas lying around collecting dust.... :)

Niki-It's only because it knows I don't have the time to write it right now. That's why it is flirting with me.

Laura-that's what I USUALLY do, too. But I am in between projects right now and this new idea keeps LOOKING at me. I out to jump on it, but I am afraid I'll scare it away.

MG-I think I'll have an idea give away on my blog! Free to good home! There are some ideas that I have that I think are GREAT, however, I wonder if I am the right writer for them or not...

Yeah, I know those stalkers. Sneaky tricksters. I've been feeling tugs lately from the girl who falls from towers. And I'm hip-deep in another fairy tale. Le sigh.

Ha! Sounds a lot like dating.

I love those durn little teasers--even if they usually have the worst timing and they hang around at exactly the moment that you AREN'T looking for them!

No new ideas for me right now. My mind is too busy with other things.

Enjoyed your post!

I LOVE new ideas - it's my favourite part of writing! I'm chasing one around right now - but hoping it can hold off until summer when I have more time to work with it! :)

I am the same way with titles! I can't write a book until I know what to call it! And actually, I recently started writing on an MG idea that I love, but I don't write MG. Which is a problem.

I have to have a title, even if I change it.

As for flirting with ideas, mine kissed me today, but our relationship is a little farther along than yours, I think. It was a great writing day.

Tricia-If the falling girl is from a snippet that you posted on you blog once, I loved that story!

SF-I know! But I am actually in the market for one right now...this just isn't the one I thought i was looking for.

Susanne-Be careful! It's when you're not looking that they always show up.

Jemi-From one teacher to another, I KNOW the feeling!

Jessis-How do you know you don't write MG until you try? Maybe this is the ONE...

Myrna-I am positively green with envy.

Love new ideas! I keep an idea box. Every now and then, I'll rummage through ideas written on napkins, pieces of paper. One day, I found a fun title I'd written years before, "Moo-arachi." I finally got around to writing the story and submitted it to the Los Angeles Times. It ran as a 5-part serial.

Good-luck with your idea!

And a idea giveaway sounds like mucho fun!
