To me, September is the official beginning of Autumn. Oh, I know the equinox (great word, equinox) isn't until September twenty-something, but ever since I worked as a young college student at Goldwater's department store and Sept.1 was the mandatory switch-over-to-Fall-wardrobe-deadline-or-get-written-up-we-don't-care-how-hot-it-is, the first day of September has always signaled Fall. (Yes, there were many days were were sweating up a storm in our preppy flannels, sweaters and woolen skirts as the New Mexico Summer hadn't finished with us until well into October...But Goldwater's was unsympathetic to the plight of the sales associates. Can't sell the Fall line unless the sales clerks wear the clothes!)
Anyway, here's a few things I look forward to most as Fall approaches:
- Cooler weather! (Until the Santa Ana winds come. Boo!)
- Colorful and crunchy leaves. (So stereotypical, I know, but I love them.)
- Friday nights with homemade soup and apple crisp for dessert
- Children (my own) who are excited by homework and not bored by it yet
- The smell of fireplaces burning in the chill of the evening
- Saturday soccer games
*sigh of contentment*
Welcome, Fall!

Here are a few of the recipes I am most looking forward to making:
enchiladas
green chile stew
Greek lemon chicken soup
bacon waffles
So hungry!

I change my menu in the fall too. More roasts and casseroles!
Fall is bittersweet for me. I love the weather, the leaves, and the smell of burning leaves. And Halloween. This family loves it!But Sept-Dec fly by for me. It seems that I'll blink and it will be cold, boring January soon. (what am I saying?! I'm usually a half full person! But seriously, it FLIES BY!)
Thank goodness for cooler weather.
I'm with you . . . I love the Fall. And where I live, it actually feels like autumn already. (I always liked the Santa Ana winds when I lived in So Cal--the smog blowing out over the ocean and the something's-gonna-happen electricity in the air.)
I love the cooler weather and of course fall clothes and boots! See ya, summer! ;)
I loved Fall in Kansas because the leaves would turn on the trees, and it was so beautiful. But here in South Texas, leaves don't turn. I am sad about this. :( However, I am looking forward to the cooler weather.
Ooo, I would love that Greek Lemon Chicken Soup recipe. And after suffering through the hottest August on record here in Boulder (every day above 90), I am more than ready for casserole weather.
Fall is my favorite time of year. I love the weather changes--the world is so beautiful in the Fall! I love everything you mentioned, + Halloween! :-)
I love the crisp, clean air of fall and carving pumpkins for Halloween. Yay, Fall!
Oh yes, I love autumn. It's my favorite season. I also like it because it's SOUP SEASON, and I love a good soup.
I'm looking forward to cooler weather. Can't handle these 90+ summer days we've had at times. Don't forget about the caramel apples. Have to have at least one of those in the fall. Saw them at the grocery store the other day, along with the fall decorations and halloween costumes. Yes, fall is almost here.
I love fall food too. I can't wait until it's cold enough for a big pot of chilli. It seems that it might be cold enough for one next week...It might be a bit too early for me this year. LOL!
I'm right there with you for the crispier colder weather. We're having a stifling heat wave here in CA. I always make chili and pumpkin pie as soon as fall weather hits. Best fall ever is when I visited New England and saw the amazing leaves change into their colors.
Kelly-Yes! Casseroles--except for tuna, which is hideous in a casserole and gives all of casseroledom a bad name.
Matthew-We actually had thunder last night, like a really fall storm!
MG-We got more coolness today--just when I get used to it, the Santa Ana's will come.
Hilary-Yes! Boots!
Jessie-I moved from a place with more seasonal changes than SoCal, but there are still changes, you just have to look harder for them.
Julie-So would I! What I mean is that I just kind of throw stuff together when I make it so it's a little different every time!
Shannon-Halloween! Haven't figured out the costume yet...
Tricia-(Shhh...I hate carving pumpkins. Don't tell anyone.) Pumpkin guts=gross
Elana-Looking for the French onion soup recipe as we speak!
Susanne-Ooohh, apples in caramel. LOVE!
Sharon-We couldn't wait and made chili last weekend. it was awesome!
Leslie-We used to drive to the mountains to see the leaves change. So little time now...
